~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you'll have an enjoyable visit.  As well as learn and or find some information you might be looking for.
You will find a couple of pages which offer you some help or guidance for those starting their first pigeon loft.  With a few suggestions on what it takes and doesn’t take to keep pigeons healthy and happy.  There are a few pages of pigeon photos, and I also offer you a page of Links, just in case you would like to visit other websites I have found helpful.  Plus a contact page…, just in case you might care to let me (an amateur) know what you think of my web site, or have any questions you might like to ask.
ABOUT ME.....
My name is Bill Sampson and I live in Indiana.  Where we have the full four seasons of the year. With spring transitional temperatures from below zero in winter, into summer temperatures in the nineties and the fall transitional temperatures back to the winter temperatures again.  So my pigeon breeding season runs from March / April, through to the start of molting time, which is mid to late August and into late September.  And by the time molting is over, it’s too cold to expect the pairs to do/ be able to care for their young very well.
I have been interested in pigeons since I was a child.  But it wasn't until after I retired that I decided to jump in and take on a dream of a life time.  So with the help of the Internet I found and built (with the help of a friend) my first loft.  It was a design for a 4' x 8' building, high enough to stand in, so I'd be out of the wind and rain when I feed and watched my birds.  It was really meant for a "racing loft", but I didn't care about that.  It was a free design to down load, with pictures of what it should look like and even came with a list of supplies to help a guy like me...., all thumbs.
Once up and ready I started out with White Homers.  I soon realized I had been bitten by “THE BUG”, so started planning for another loft the next yr.  Of course this time it had to be much bigger !   And of course it didn't take long after that, before a voice in my head said, "hey bud..., you’re on a limited income here, you need to get real and understand that this second building is going to be IT.., no more..., kaput "? (First rule, build as large as you can afford.., you’ll regret it if you don’t.)
So, after doing a lot of looking around, I found that my best buy (for me) was at a local hardware, building supply Co.  They sold prefab sheds of varying sizes built on your land in a couple of hours...... GREAT !!  They could put up the building and I and my thumbs could design and put into place, what it would take to have my second dream loft.  Or at least what I could afford for a dream loft.
Of course now that I had plenty of room (or so I thought then)...,  I could start experimenting with some other breeds I found attractive.  But like any small quarters, be it a home, garage or tool shed, after a while when something comes in, something else must go to make room it.  So over time (even now w/ two lofts), I’ve had Nuns, Figuritas, Damascenes, Oriental Rollers, Old German Owls and my most recent interest are the Iranian High Flyers.  Yes, I know…, I’m a fickle guy.. (Second rule.., you’ll need loft room/ sections in your loft for breeding pairs, young birds and two sec. for sexing cocks from hens in the off-breeding season to save on the laying of eggs.)
And so, in a short period of time.., a little over six years, I have not only built my first loft, but a second one as well.  Not to mention building onto my first loft to double its size to an 8’x 8’.  I have had several different breeds to enjoy and learn from.  And I'm glad to say I‘m enjoying my retirement and life goes on in my long awaited world of pigeons.  For now though, I think I’m going to concentrate on my newly found Iranian High Flyers
